Keeping your teeth and braces clean during orthodontic treatment is EXTREMELY important for several reasons.
Plaque and leftover food can keep teeth from moving. The braces need to be able to move on the wires in your mouth. Having all sorts of gunk in there will interfere with that happening.
Not brushing properly can lead to an increased risk of cavities and an increased risk of decalcification. What is decalcification you ask? That is a demineralization of the enamel that results in permanent white spots on the teeth. This cannot be fixed.
Poor brushing can also lead to swollen and red gums or gingivitis.
We will take all the time you need to instruct on the proper brushing techniques for brushing with braces. It is important to brush often and brush well! Keep those teeth and braces sparkling! :)
